First Meet Up! February 24th 5-7.

The place is the Bradshaw Art Space, located in Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (13 Perth Road) and will be Friday February 24th from 5-7. We can choose to cross the street and get more drinks at the pub after 7. I am really looking forward to meeting people. There are a few events happening that night at the same place: The Fun A Day exhibition, the Satellite Zine issue 6 release party, and our first TPI Meet Up. I think this will make for a fun and raucous time. Hopefully we can mingle and also discuss what we are up to and interested in for the future. I have a project I would like to do in the summer that everyone is invited to join in.

See you on the 24th.

Happy New Year

Hello, Welcome to 2012.

We are planning to have our first Meet-Up in the next few weeks. I will post all the details once they are confirmed. If you have suggestions for content, location, or good links/reading material send them our way – via the comments or at transpracticalintervention@gmail.com.

Thank you.

This picture is a teaser for a project one of the members of TPI will be discussing at the Meet-Up. The first person who correctly guesses the location where this photo was taken will get a free drink that night.

Interview Results

I met with over a dozen people affiliated with the Art/Science module – both Artists and Scientists. I asked folks how they heard about the module, why they are interested, what they want, what they can offer, and if they would like to meet-up. I also asked what they would like to see at a meet-up, when, and where. Here is the whole picture.

What? What!

This thing is so new and shiny at the moment. We don’t even know quite what it is or will be.

Here is a bit of background. I am a student at the University of Dundee in an Art/Science module. I went to a symposium where many people brought up a need for a time and place to meet up. I thought that sounded good, and could be my project for the term. I came up with some questions to ask the participants in the module – both artists and scientists – as a starting point to see what people wanted. I will be planning a meet up for early 2012 and would like any input.

Casual chats with tea have occurred. Data will soon be typed up. Wallpaper paste has been procured and will be put into action this week.

The future of any groupings or meetups depends on interested people. There are no set rules. I have found some examples from the internet

There is a group out of NYC that has an interesting premiss. They are called Random Awesome and:

“You know the drill: Freaks, geeks and artistes – we take all comers. No presentations, business cards optional – the focus is on awesome people and drinks. We believe firmly in getting people together in a room and watching what unfolds.”

There are also presentation based events such as BYOPPT (Bring your own Powerpoint) or PechaKucha:

Byoppt is an event for the visual presentation of esoteric and unlimited topics.

There are two rules

A.) You may have up to 20 slides. You are allowed 20 seconds of time for each slide.

B.) You may not present on your day job / major / field of primary study.

PechaKucha has the same presentation rule but you may present on your day job / major / field of primary study.

I think Workshops, Activities, and Skill Shares are other good options for the future.

Let me know what you think.
